Losing It

Publisher:William Morrow
Release Date: February 26th,  2013
Format: Paperback, 288 pages

Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

*I like this cover more than the new cover with half of Garrick's head cut off. The guy on the other cover is too pale soooo I'm using the old cover for my review!*

Losing It is one of those books that once you pick up, you literally cannot put down. I was grinning from ear to ear since the very first word and several times I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Losing It is an easy and relaxing read, one you can finish in one sitting after a tiresome day at work/school :)

I honestly don’t know if I should pity Bliss or envy her. She has a knack for winding up in the most mortifying situations possible and making possibly the lamest excuses imaginable. So yeah, I guess I feel sorry for her. But the up-side of her humiliation? The guy who ends up witnessing her embarrassment not only finds her adorable, but falls for her. So I guess I envy her as well, especially since said guy is GARRICK. The jaw-droppingly gorgeous Garrick, with his sexy-as-hell British accent will have all the girls melting into a puddle with only a single glance in his direction. I would rather die than live with the humiliation; it would haunt me Every. Single. Day.

While most of the characters felt realistic and I certainly enjoyed meeting every single one of them, I can’t say the same about the relationships between some of the characters. I was frustrated and a little annoyed that Bliss failed to be truthful with her best friend Kelsey. I hated how she lied to Kelsey again and again; I mean, the two are best friends for a reason and I really didn’t think she had a legitimate reason (as a best friend) to lie to her about certain things. Then there’s Bliss’s relationship with Garrick. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE these two, but sometimes I felt they didn’t understand each other at all and their love was based purely on their lust for one another. I also didn’t feel Garrick’s character was ‘complete’; he felt like a hollow character, where I could only see the outside and there’s nothing else inside for me to get to know better. Fortunately though, the book was so fun and hilarious, that this didn’t bother me!

Losing It is a light and delightfully amusing read for anyone interested in the New Adult genre. Don’t think too much, just read purely for the fun of it!
A massive thank you to William Morrow for providing a copy of Losing It for review!

  1. Maybe because I'm from the UK, but the words 'British accent' make me groan more than anything, hah. ;) Give me an Australian accent any day. I'm glad you enjoyed this, Shirley! Your love for Garrick has me really curious about this book. Plus I wouldn't mind something a little mature soon. Great review as always! :)

  2. Oooh I really need to read this one. I have heard really good things about it. Too bad the relationships weren't a bit more believable for you and Garrick wasn't a bit more developed. It's funny that you put that bit about the cover up top because I actually refused to read this book with the original cover. The guy looks like he's 12 and he's supposed to be a professor? I couldn't buy it. But this is what's fun about what we do, everyone perceives things so differently! Love it! Great review, Shirley!

  3. YAY SHIRLEY!!! So glad you loved this one overall, I just had so much fun reading it:) I agree, the lying and the misunderstandings between all the characters got a little tedious at times, but like you, it just didn't bother me enough to detract from my enjoyment. I'm really looking forward to reading Faking It next!!!!

  5. OOOOOH. ME LIKE BRITISH BOYZZ.
oh my god i sound annoying. LOL.
But I've been wanting to read this for FOREVER. Garrick sounds completely swoon-worthy, but I'm a little worried about the relationships you talked about that exist in this book. Betraying best friends is a NO NO. And I feel like most NA relationships are based purely on lust, too.. and if you know me, I always overthink relationships. I hope I'll still like the overall story when I read it though. Brilliant review, Shirley! <3

  6. Lol it's funny about the cover I actually don't like this one at all the guy looks like he's 12 it's creeping me out! I'll take the head cut off! hahaha. Anyways I got this one a few weeks ago as a gift and I was so excited I love New Adult and this sounds right up my alley as a breezy, quick read that grabs you from the start. I might just read it next week actually since I'll be on a short leave for my wisdom teeth I'll need a light read like this! Great review, muffin!

  7. That blurb sounds VERY cringy indeed! Poor her! That must be the most awkward situation to ever happen!

It's a shame that Bliss was a frustrating character. I hate it when characters do stupid things and make want to shake them! However, it sounds like such a fun, hilarious novel that I still really want to pick this up!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful review with us, Shirley! <3
