In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

JULIE KAGAWA, please, please, PLEASE don't EVER stop writing. Your books are addictive, enticing and no doubt my guilty pleasure! Gosh, from the Iron Fey series to The Immortal Rules , I swear I've experienced every possible emotion there is to feel. And right now, I'm feeling love and adoration for this fantastically written book, and absolute amazement at how someone could write such a brilliant piece of work. Eeeeee! It's official; The Immortal Rules is by far, my most favourite 2012 book! Looks like the Queen of world-building and writing kick-butt heroines strikes again! The world-building once again, is flawless! I loved the disturbingly dark and gritty world Kagawa has created, where vampires( and thank goodness, these vamps are blood-sucking, soulless monsters, who are more than happy to rip apart their prey *shudder* ) and humans co-exist. And guess what? it's completely different from the Iron Fey world, but equally fascinating! Allie is possibly one of the most kick-ass, fierce and loyal heroines ever! She's just...AMAZING. Like Rose Hathaway-amazing and Hermione Granger-amazing. She's the complete opposite of all those typical female leads we're so used to reading about - the ones who follow their vampire/angel/werewolf boyfriend around like a lost puppy. You'll be glad Allie doesn't need a guy to say the whole'Trust me...Don't be afraid.. I won't hurt you... I'll protect you with my life' line every 2 seconds; she's certainly capable of looking after herself! She has certainly earned her place on my list of 'Most Respected Characters'!! (Oh, and you know what's more kick-ass than an independent and strong FEMALE VAMPIRE ? An independent and strong female vampire wielding a KATANA and using it to kill other vampires/creatures!) Oh, and did I mention how much I LOVE Zeke? I love how he's so different from the typical YA love interests, yet he's still swoon-worthy and is able to make your heart beat just a little faster <3 And there's also KANIN! I'll admit I still have no idea how old he is-or actually how old he's suppose to appear as-, but his brief appearance in the book has certainly made quite an impression on me - which translates to HE HAS STOLEN MY HEART! I certainly hope we'll discover more about Kanin in the next book, because I'm incredibly intrigued by this mysterious, powerful and sympathetic vampire :) With a cast of endearing characters - ones you'll love and never forget-, an original and captivating plot and a new take on the traditional vampires, which im sure we've all missed, The Immortal Rules is simply a page-turner. So...if you haven't grabbed a copy of this yet, you must be out of your mind. GO BUY A COPY IMMEDIATELY! You WON'T be disappointed! Anddd have you checked out the fantastic trailer? I FREAKING LOVE IT! |

ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY. YES to absolutely everything you said in this review! A nice condensed version of everything I tried to say in mine LMAO. Love it ;) Allie is most definitely badass and SIGH I will just die if Julie ever stops writing...
ReplyDeleteAnd SEND! Oh my gosh, Shirley-birdie!! Someone needs to email this review to Julie ASAP because it highlights exactly all of the reasons why I wish she won't stop writing either!! :D First, her writing is gorgeous. Second, her world-building is flawless. And third, she just totally rocks our socks off!! :')
ReplyDeleteThis was a FANTASTIC review for a FANTASTIC book with FANTASTIC characters and a FANTASTIC katana-wielding heroine that kicked ass like a heroine should! (As much as I loved our sweet heroines, I totally love our bad-ass & independent ones even more!) And Julie sure knows how to write those boys -- even the ones that aren't really love interests! x) <3 *SA-WOON*
I love kick ass girls and can't wait to read this!! :)
ReplyDeleteHee! So glad you enjoyed this. But seriously, from the crazy fangirl who helped convince me to read Iron Fey, would I really expect anything less? Uh.. NO :P
ReplyDeleteKanin SO intrigued me, I really hope we see a heck of a lot more of him in the sequel. And ALLIE. Wow, girl is crazy badass. I love me a protagonist with strength and fire and doesn't take anyone's crap.
AWESOME REVIEW, SHIRLEY!
Wow that review was excellent - I have this on hold to read at the library but it is gonna take aaaaaaggeeesssss!! Lots of your favourite series are also my favourites too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :-)
She sure is the Queen of Worldbuilding! I'm so glad you loved this book too Shirley. I don't want Julie Kagawa to ever stop writing either. I adore all her books and can't wait to get more from her. Awesome review! :)
ReplyDeleteShirley! Your review has me super excited. I saw The Immortal Rules in Big W the other day and was *this close* to buying it, but I didn't. Seriously annoyed at myself now. Comparing Allie to Rose and Hermione? I'm sold! (and again annoyed at myself for not buying it when I saw it) There is no better way to get me hooked.
